2013 FACULTY: Bios & Kudos EDITOR Regina Griffin
Regina was formerly VP and Editor-in-Chief at Holiday House, and Executive Editor at Scholastic. At Scholastic, she built up the movie tie-in program and oversaw the Apple and Point paperback imprints. Regina has edited such authors as Todd Strasser and Walter Dean Myers (e.g. Myers’ Newbery Honor book Somewhere in the Darkness, and his Caldecott Honor book Harlem). Though Egmont is relatively new in the USA, it’s a multi-national publisher established some 100 years ago. Its mission, in the words of Elizabeth Law (Egmont USA’s former VP-Publisher): “We turn writers into authors and children into lifelong readers.” Exactly our aim at the Pacific Coast Children’s Writers Workshop. In the UK, Fiona was Publishing Director at Oxford University Press Children’s Books. As Publishing Director at Hodder Children’s Books (UK arm of Little, Brown), her team developed a list that included David Almond’s Skellig. Fiona was nominated for Editor of the Year at the British Book Awards. Her authors have won or been nominated for every major British children’s literary award; several books have become million-copy bestsellers. In the US, Fiona was Editorial Director at HarperCollins, where she published prize-winning authors such as Cynthia Voight and Lois Lowry (including Lowry’s The Giver). Later, as a film executive, Fiona acquired and adapted children’s books and original scripts into movies, including the Academy-nominated “Coraline” and “Paranorman.” Fiona holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Cambridge University. Today she’s interested in representing a wide range of genres, with this common denominator: “I love strong well-developed characters, anti-heroes, feisty girls, and resilient boys. I like books that make me forget where I am, where the characters are better company than even the people around me!” Fiona is actively seeking new clients. She reads all submissions she receives, responding within six weeks. Fiona looks forward to “nurturing and developing” her authors. We hope that you, our 2013 workshop enrollee, will be among them! |

Regina Griffin is the Executive Editor of Egmont USA, where she acquires a wide range of middle grade and YA novels, including historical, fantasy, paranormal, humorous, and contemporary novels. She started her career working for famed children’s book agent, Marilyn E. Marlow, who represented such authors as S.E. Hinton, Paul Zindel, Robert Cormier, Paula Danziger, and Patricia Reilly Giff.
Based in Canada with branches in the USA and Europe, Transatlantic Agency offers 20 years of expertise and international experience. Fiona brings with her an impressive film background, preceded by a 20-year career in editing—an asset for any agent, as well as for his or her clients.
