In these pages, you’ll find detailed bulletin board instructions. However, you may wish to navigate intuitively. In either case, enjoy!

LOG IN

You must be registered (a workshop participant) and log in to access most of the bulletin board’s offerings. Log in at the top or bottom of the page, then follow the prompts. You can click “Log me on automatically each visit” (but please do not do this from a public computer).

OVERVIEW

The Board Index (near top of page) links to all forums, including workshop announcements, updates, FAQs, networking, and discussions. Only registered workshop participants may read all posts. For instructions about posting, click here.
 
The User Control Panel (UCP) is a “must visit” as soon as you’ve registered. The UCP allows you to update your personal profile, manage subscriptions and digests (set your time zone and intervals for the latter), change your password, send or receive private messages, and more. After you log in, click the UCP link near the top of any page. Then click on the left column links for many options. •  For a guide to our most often-used submenus, click here.

Navigation: The broadest category of posts are called forums. These are divided into subforums, each with posts called topics. • The most important or timely topics, Announcements, are at the top of the list. Posts below these are simply titled Topics. • Posts are usually placed in descending order, starting with the most recent. If you reply to an existing post, your response automatically goes to the top of the list. • If a forum is marked “locked,” only the board administrator can post in that forum.
 
When you view a forum, you’ll see a “breadcrumbs path” (marked ») near the top of the page. This shows what level you’re at in the forum’s hierarchy. You may click up or down to another level (backwards or forward to another screen). For example:

means you’re in the Board Index, viewing the forum WRITERS’ ROUNDTABLE, and, within it, the subforum Workshop Feedback & Dialogues. Click on any “crumbs” to retrace or advance your steps!

TIPS

To change your password: Enter the User Control Panel (top of page), then click Edit Account Settings.

Email a Friend: When you select this forum option, the recipient will receive a post from the Writers Workshop Community by [your name]. It will include a link to the forum of interest, and an optional message from you.

Print View: This forum option shows the full page of posts—text only. Compact, and handy for reference!

If the above information doesn’t answer your questions, try these options:

  • Check the board’s scripted FAQs.
  • Visit our FAQs: Bulletin Board forum, where members post questions. If you still have an issue, click the New Topic icon at top left of your screen. Look for an administrative response within 24 hours.
  • If you are technically unable to post your question, ask a friend, family member, tutor, or colleague to help you with our user-friendly instructions.
  • In summer, a volunteer enrollee may be able to assist peers by email.

 Remember: To log in and read every post, you must be registered.
