— Ally Cowee, alum and workshop presenter

OTHER EXPENSES

When considering an exceptional event, it’s helpful to know all costs upfront. Here are items to help you plan your PCCWW enrollment!

  • Books. Much of our pre-workshop material is available in our free course manuals. However, we suggest that participants be familiar with and/or purchase several excellent books on the writing craft (noted in our manual).

  • Manuscript Photocopies and Mailing. Enrollees in Group A, whole novel critiques, may make one or two copies of their full manuscript for postal mailing (if faculty prefers print to electronic submissions). Enrollees in Group B, masterclass critiques, make three copies of their partial manuscripts for postal mailing.

  • Transportation. Limo transportation to and from the San Jose International Airport starts at $71 per vehicle; San Francisco and Oakland airports, $101; Monterey airport, $71 (closest to workshop, but limited airport service). Add $7 airport-pickup fee. Rate may be divided among up to three passengers. Call Airport Express: 831-477-7000. Reliable; best rates in town. Book several weeks in advance.

Or, rent a car. (You may want to drive somewhere for Saturday night dinner “on your own,” though non-driving options exist.) Best car rental price is usually Enterprise. National office: 1-800-736-8222 or reserve online. Local office will pick you up in town for free. Nearest local office to our workshop: Watsonville, CA.:  831-761-2800. Book as early as possible; rates increase closer to the travel date, and cars sell out in summer!

Finally, considering contacting other enrollees to share rides. Check our bulletin board.

Saturday Dinner. Workshop fees do not include Saturday dinner, aka “Writers’ Night Out.” Our workshop manual includes a detailed guide to nearby eateries—a wide range of prices and interesting cuisines. Other, budget options available. Personalize your evening with an intimate group of like-minded friends!

HEADS UP! For maximum critique options and lowest fees at our October 5-7, 2012 workshop (16 enrollees), or concurrent retreat (6 enrollees), inquire early. Teen workshops: click here!
